The May long weekend got off to a deadly start on Calgary streets when police say speed and alcohol appeared to play a role in a collision that killed two women.
Police say four members of the same family were in a Toyota Corolla that was struck by a Hyundai driven by a 21-year-old man.
Two women in the Corolla, aged 31 and 65, died at the scene, and two others in the vehicle were injured.
Police says the driver of the Hyundai was detained at the scene and released.
