NEW EDUCATION MINISTER

LaGrange reiterates UCP commitment to Education Act

May 20, 2019 | 9:10 AM

Some teachers who believe the Alberta UCP’s Education Act will hurt gay-straight alliances waved Pride flags as the new minister took the stage at the Alberta Teachers’ Association convention.

Adriana LaGrange promised to protect every student when she spoke at the convention in Edmonton Saturday.

Premier Jason Kenney said during the election campaign his United Conservative government would replace the NDP-drafted education law with older unproclaimed legislation.

That would have the effect of undoing several GSA provisions, including a ban on schools informing parents if their children join such a club.

LaGrange has not been made available for media interviews because of the government transition, according to a spokesperson.
