Smoke impacting air quality in parts of the Peace

May 22, 2019 | 11:17 AM

Environment Canada has issued special air quality statements for a big chunk of the Peace Country.

The statements are for the Fairview, High Prairie, Peace River, Manning, High Level, and Fort Vermilion areas.

This takes in everything from Birch Hills and Saddle Hills Counties north to the Northwest Territories border.

It says smoke from wildfires is impacting air quality in those areas and that the wind is pushing that smoke south.

Environment Canada also says it is possible smoke could reach Grande Prairie by Thursday afternoon.

The warnings caution that anyone that has trouble breathing should stay inside.
