Construction zone speed this month’s focus for Enforcement Services
July is construction zone road safety month for the Selected Traffic Enforcement Program, also known as STEP.
Enforcement Services are using this month to remind drivers to use extra caution when driving in construction zones, due to the higher volume of road projects going on in the area.
“That’s usually when that type of work occurs. So, we make the month of July to let people know construction zones are important and to keep your speeds down,” said Sargent Charlene Gallant. “There is more than usual as far as construction goes.”
One of the biggest things Enforcement will be looking for in these areas are speeders. That is something Gallant says can be an on-going issue in the city, as drivers often do not follow the reduced posted speed at the begin of the zone and continue travelling at their normal rate of speed.
