City, Energy Efficiency Alberta to talk green initiatives next week

Jul 21, 2019 | 8:01 AM

The City of Grande Prairie and Energy Efficiency Alberta will be offering local businesses a chance to learn about becoming more energy efficient through a breakfast event next week.

Growing the Energy Industry in the Grande Prairie Region goes on Tuesday, July 30 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the Pomeroy Hotel.

“There is going to be a panel of energy experts and local businesses, just talking about what energy is for them, what they are working on and what their goals are,” said Environmental Outreach Specialist with the City of Grande Prairie Jessica Foley. “Then there is going to be a presentation from Energy Efficiency Alberta. Their experts are going to be there, and then there is also going to be networking opportunities as well.”

According to Energy Efficiency Alberta in a release, investing in energy efficient initiatives has helped Alberta’s economy by $720 million through increased economic activity. That can be seen across many different industries.

“Grande Prairie has had incredible uptake of energy efficiency programs, which means opportunities for local home improvement companies and contractors installing energy efficiency equipment,” said Vice-President of Energy Efficiency Alberta Darryl Hill. “As more Albertans invest in energy efficiency and renewable energy, these benefits will continue to grow.”

With that, Foley says that starting the conversation about becoming more energy efficient is the first step for a small, medium or large sized business to becoming more sustainable, both environmentally and economically. By getting a chance to chat with a cross-section of industries from across Grande Prairie, Alberta and Canada about what they do to save energy, that can help other businesses continue the trend to a greener footprint.

“And then from there, making decisions on what can improve their energy efficiencies. Whether it’s solar, whether it’s putting in energy efficient appliances, there is tons of things that folks can do to improve their energy efficiencies,” said Foley.

Individuals and businesses that wish to attend the breakfast must register through the City’s website by this Tuesday (July 23). The breakfast is free of charge.
