FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. – A former staff sergeant with an RCMP detachment in northeastern Alberta has been given probation for touching a female colleague without consent at a Christmas party.
Jason Keays, who is 44, was charged with sexual assault but pleaded guilty in Fort McMurray court to common assault.
Court heard he was a member of the Wood Buffalo RCMP when he slapped the woman’s behind at the off-duty party in 2017.
Crown Prosecutor Ron Simenik says the victim, who was a subordinate of Keays, was left emotionally and psychologically distressed.
