City to take over disabled transportation services in September
After two months of negotiations and discussion, the City of Grande Prairie and Disabled Transportation Society have come to an agreement that will see the City take over operations of the service, effective September 1.
The City will move the operation of disabled transportation services in the Swan City under it Transit Services operations.
With this announcement, Mayor Bill Given says that after really looking into how to best provide the service, this was the best way to do it.
“It means the people who rely on the service day-to-day will be able to know that this is going to be there for them,” said Given. “It also means that those passionate, committed volunteers from DTS will be able to focus their efforts on supporting their friends and family in other ways, knowing that this basic transportation need is taken care of.”
