Honours for Crystal Creek farm family

Aug 15, 2019 | 1:26 PM

A Crystal Creek farm family has been saluted by the County of Grande Prairie.

The Ray and Laurie Marcy family have been given the County’s Pioneer Family Farming Award.

It salutes those who have farmed or ranched in the County continuously for 100 years on land they own or have rented.

The Marcy’s still live where Ray’s great-grandparents, Orso and Lena, homesteaded in 1919.

“Agriculture and family farms are a vital part of the fabric of the County of Grande Prairie,” said Ag. Fieldman Sonja Raven in a release, adding, “The County makes it a priority to recognize the commitment and investment these community builders make in this key sector and to life in the area. We congratulate the Marcy’s for their contributions over the last 100 years and wish them continued success.”

The County says applications are taken for this award all year. Anyone interested can check here.
