X marks the spot – today is Election Day

Oct 21, 2019 | 7:03 AM

Today is Election Day, as Canadians go to the polls to elect our next federal government.

Elections Canada Spokesperson Leanne Nyirfa says it is important that you go to the correct polling station to cast your ballot.

“That information can be found on your Voter Information Card, that you should have received in the mail. The card provides information on your location, the hours of voting, as well as accessibility at that particular poll.”

If you did not receive a voter card, Nyirfa says you can still register at the polling station.

“It is important that you bring identification with you to the polls to vote. In most cases, people have a drivers licence, so a government-issued piece of ID that has your photo, name and address on it will do. If you do not have a driver’s licence, you can bring two other pieces of ID that are approved by Elections Canada. Both of these need to have your name on it and one needs to have your address.”

To find out which polling station you should be going to, you can call 1-800-463-6868, or go to elections.ca and enter your postal code in the voter information service section.

Polls will be open across Alberta from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
