Mariah Kyllo is taking home top honours for her play this season, as she has been named the recipient of the ACAC Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Year award for the North Division, as well as a member of the North Division’s All Conference First team.

The awards were presented to Kyllo on Thursday night in Edmonton at the Women’s Soccer Championship ceremony.

The first-year midfielder joined the Wolves out of Charles Spencer High School this past offseason, and quickly made an impact on the team from the outset. She scored two goals in her debut against Keyano on September 7, finishing the season with four.

“Mariah scored a brace of goals in her debut game for GPRC in the ACAC and has been instrumental in her midfield role all season,” said Head Coach Chris Morgan, in a release. “She is a dynamic player with a wonderful personality. Mariah is a team player in every sense, she brings an intensity and work ethic to every practice and game that few can match.”

“I am delighted for Mariah. She has been brilliant for us.”

Kyllo and the Wolves came ever-so-close to making the postseason this year, falling just short in the final game of the season on Sunday to the King’s University College 2-1, missing the playoffs in a tiebreaker. Kyllo scored the lone goal for the Wolves in that game.

Kyllo is currently enrolled in the college’s Personal Trainer program, and is working towards becoming a physical education teacher in the future.
