Funding confirmed for Peace Country flood mitigation work

Nov 13, 2019 | 4:30 AM

The new provincial government has confirmed funding for two local flood mitigation projects promised by the previous one.

The first one is $1.3-million to the County of Grande Prairie for something called the Wapiti River Bank and Siltation Pond Slope Stabilization project.

This is for work already done in 2018 to protect a pair of Aquatera’s water reservoirs from erosion. It included strengthening the river bank and planting some live willows.

The other is $1.1-million to the Town of Sexsmith. The money is for building wetlands, berms, increasing the creek capacity, and improving drainage. These are meant to store water and disperse it more safely.
