La Glace Fire Hall

La Glace Fire Hall set to open this month

Jan 2, 2020 | 12:16 PM

After several months of delays, the new La Glace fire hall is expected to open later this month.

Ground broke on the new fire hall in July 2018. The reason for building the new fire hall was that a review showed that the current fire hall was too small to fit some of the new equipment.

The fire hall was expected to open last spring, however due to last years string of cold weather, construction fell behind.

“We had a few delays, but a lot of it was continued on weather. We ran into some construction delays on the preparation of the groundwork,” said Dan Verdun the Fire Chief for the County of Grande Prairie. “Those delays unfortunately pushed us into a window where the weather became a bit of a factor, so we felt it was better to delay the project through the winter months and resume again in the spring.”

The new hall will have a lot more space and benefit the fire department for the future.

“We have the ability to accommodate six fire trucks, we have areas dedicated specifically for training, a small kitchen, multiple areas designated for storage, gear and equipment. Just overall, it’s a larger structure with a lot more dedicated areas to allow us to work, train and practice.”

A meeting will be taking place later this week between the Fire Department and the builders to discuss an appropriate date for the move in.
