Budget 2020 Conference Calls

Telephone town halls will collect public input for Budget 2020

Jan 24, 2020 | 12:15 PM

The Province is hosting two telephone town halls to get public input for Budget 2020. The two town hall conference calls will give Albertans an opportunity to ask questions, share their thoughts and ideas, and voice their concerns about the upcoming Provincial Budget.

“Telephone town halls are an opportunity for us to speak directly to Albertans and listen to their priorities. In the lead-up to Budget 2019, we were able to connect with almost 35,000 people across Alberta. Their feedback helped inform the budget and I am looking forward to hearing from Albertans again,” says Travis Toews, the President of the Treasury Board, Minister of Finance and MLA for Grande Prairie Wapiti, in a statement.

Two telephone town halls will be held, in order to reach as many Albertans as possible. The first will go on Monday, Jan. 27, and serve everyone living north of Red Deer. The second will serve everyone in and south of Red Deer on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Both calls will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Albertans with publicly listed phone numbers will receive calls automatically and invited to participate. People may also dial into the call toll-free at 1-877-229-8493, and enter code 115500. Participants can also register online in advance.

The 90-minute call will be moderated, and, following opening remarks, will feature a question-and-answer period Albertans may also listen in and submit questions online.

The Government of Alberta says no personal information gathered through the conference call will be saved or used.

The information gathered through the discussion will be used to help make decision on the future budgets, including the 2020 Budget. Albertans can also provide their comments online until Feb. 7.
