City settles on lighting for new entrance signs

The City has taken another step forward with the new entrance feature signs design.

The Community Services Committee was presented with three options today for the lighting of the signs.

In September of last year, the City requested feedback from residents on proposed designs for new entrance signs. A render of the final design, pictured above, shows some slight changes to what was settled on from the feedback.

“The final design is very much in line with what the community engagement showed,” said Stephanie Cajolais, Manager of Sports Development, Wellness and Culture with the City. “So, actually, changing the sign and putting a white background behind it is more in line with what came back from the community consultation.”

Cajolais, says they decided to endorse just white lighting instead of options for colours.

“It simply draws attention to it, and I think there is already a motion that any leftover funding would be allocated to potentially another project related to a request the Downtown Association had submitted.”

The Downtown Association had previously submitted a request for new signage back in April of 2019.

The white lighting was also the lowest cost option at $114,437, which was around $22,000 less than computer-controlled colour changes for the lights.

Cajolais says the installation for the signs is to begin around June.
