Thief hits Sexsmith Fire Station

Mar 4, 2020 | 5:24 PM

RCMP are investigating after a thief stole some equipment from the Sexsmith Fire Station.

A release says someone broke into the station just before 2 a.m. Monday and went into the area where equipment is stored before going into the office area. The suspect got in and left through the east side door.

A radio with a remote speaker, laptop, tactical laptop bag, and a wildland firefighting gear bag are among the items taken.

The laptop and radio have been remotely disabled and are not operational.

“This theft had the potential to affect the safety of fire department members and the public. Radios are our lifelines at emergency scenes; Being short a radio without realizing it could have had immediate impacts to service if there was an emergency call before the theft was noted,” says District Fire Chief Dale Widsten.

A picture of the suspect can be seen above. Fire officials do not know what vehicles may have been used, or if anyone else was involved.
