Grant applications for charitable and non-profit organizations being accepted by local municipalities on behalf of province

Mar 30, 2020 | 5:30 AM

The City’s Family and Community Support Service’s (FCSS) are now accepting applications for funding during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The six other municipalities in the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership (GPREP) are doing the same, including the County of Grande Prairie, the Towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, Wembley and the Village of Hythe.

Brenda Adams, the Community Development Supervisor with the City, says the funds will come from the province.

“We will be receiving applications from charitable and non-profit organizations which we will vet through them (the province of Alberta) and make recommendations, so the applications will be going to the Alberta government, and then they will make the decision as to who will be receiving the grants.”

The funding is meant for community groups who offer support for seniors, food support, mental health services and other community services.

The funding is meant to be used for difficulties or services being offered in response to COVID-19.

Adams says those who receive the funding are to use it by March of 2021.

“It isn’t necessarily a one-time shot where they’re going to spend all that money right away on a program, it could be an ongoing program, especially if it’s some sort of virtual program they’re doing for mental health assistance or online group settings where workshops are being held in a virtual way.”

Adams adds that right now, they are not sure of how much funding they will be getting from the province to give to these groups and organizations.
