Rib Fest cancelled for 2020, to return in 2021

Jun 5, 2020 | 7:03 PM

The Rotary Club of Grande Prairie After Five has decided to cancel this year’s Rib Fest.

It was set for July 17 to 19.

Club President Wade Nellis says the cancellation can be blamed on the pandemic.

“This was an event last year that had 13,000 people coming out and eating and enjoying hospitality. We just want to encourage those people that might have come to Rib Fest to search out local businesses and local food trucks and just try to do what they can to support those suppliers, those businesses in this time of need.”

Nellis says they plan to be back in 2021.

“We’re planning to bring back Rib Fest bigger and better than ever in 2021. It was a family-friendly event that hosted 13,000 people last year that we’re very proud of. It’s also a fund-raiser for our club and we fully intend to go ahead with it.”

This year’s edition would have been the second annual Rib Fest.

Nellis says they are hoping to add more things for kids and other activities to turn the next edition into an entertainment event, rather than just an eating event
