Grande Prairie’s Tenille Townes set for release of debut album

Grande Prairie’s very own country music star Tenille Townes is gearing up for the release of her debut album this coming Friday, called The Lemonade Stand.

The album is set for release on June 26 and follows the EP The Road to the Lemonade Stand, and marks her first full length album for Columbia Nashville.

Townes says the name on the album is meant to represent people coming together, while rediscovering their childhood dreams.

“To me, it’s like this metaphor for a gathering place,” said Townes. “Letting them just show up and be reminded of who they are and reminded of the dreams that they had as a little kid at a lemonade stand.

“I definitely used to set up one outside of the Mayor’s house in Valleyview and I love just sort of imagining that little spot of innocence and wonder, and this record very much is the dream I had as that little kid.”

The four-time CCMA winner’s first album with Columbia features her hit singles Somebody’s Daughter, White Horse and Jersey on the Wall, plus seven new songs not part of the EP.

Townes adds that the lead up to the release of the album has served as a nice distraction from the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced her to head back to Nashville back in March and postpone her tour for Road to the Lemonade Stand.

“I sure am just missing being out on the road and all of those things, but I’m just grateful to be feeling healthy and writing songs, and I am so pumped about this record. It’s keeping the hope in my tank.”

The album release nearly lines up with her 11th annual Big Hearts for Big Kids fundraising concert, which will be held online this year to raise money for the Sunrise House Youth Emergency Shelter in Grande Prairie. The concert will go on June 30 and will feature performances from other Nashville stars like Dierks Bentley, Brandi Carlile and Luke Combs.

The concert will be live streamed on Tenille’s Facebook, YouTube and Instagram pages.
