Canadian Wrestling’s Elite returning to Grande Prairie in August

Wrestling fans in Grande Prairie will have a chance to watch the sport live in their city on August 15, as Canadian Wrestling’s Elite (CWE) brings its tour back to the Swan City.

CWE’s stop in Grande Prairie will be the fifth and final of the tour and will take place at the Jackpot Grill & Events Centre. 100 spectators will be allowed in the stands.

Danny Warren is the Owner and Operator with CWE and says it’s exciting to get back on the road and to visit the Swan City.

“It’s the first event we’ll have in Grande Prairie since the pandemic begun and we are looking back to getting on the road. We were scheduled to do a 36-event tour across six provinces in the Spring, which would be the biggest tour in company history and that got cancelled with everything going on.

“Grande Prairie has always been one of our strongest markets, so we are kind of testing it out there to get the kinks out. (We) know that we are going to come into a wrestling city that appreciates what we do and we are going to fill that building for us as much as we are allowed to put in there.”

Wrestlers scheduled to take place on the tour this year, for the first time in company history, will all be Canadian as the United States border remains closed for non-essential travel.

Wrestlers will come from across the country, including Alberta.

One of those Canadian wrestlers who will likely be participating in the event on August 15 will be Grande Prairie’s very own Beri Grayson who Warren says is always a big draw in the city.

“That’s a big part of why we come up to Grande Prairie, he relocated a couple of years ago to train with former WWE star Lance Storm to become a professional wrestler. He’s one of our top headline attractions every time we come to Grande Prairie, he’s definitely one of the most popular stars in Northern Alberta for Canadian Wrestlers Elite.”

With plans to have spectators in attendance, Warren says they requested and have received approval from AHS to hold their event, and will make sure it’s as safe and healthy as possible.

“If anyone has questions or concerns with their safety and how the event will proceed you can always reach out to the company directly and we can make sure to alleviate those,” said Warren. “We understand there is a lot of concern in the world just across the board with how serious this is and how serious this could be. We are taking all the precautions necessary, so everybody feels safe comes into the event healthy and returns just as healthy.”

General admission tickets cost $20, and it’s $23 at the door. As of right now capacity for the show will be limited to 100 people.
