UPDATE: As of 7:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, the winter storm warning for the Peace River area has ended.

A winter storm warning has been issued for the Peace River area Wednesday, which the weather office says is expected to create hazardous winter conditions.

The warning comes after a freezing rain warning was issued on Tuesday, which will now be followed by heavy snow and freezing rain that is expected to begin Wednesday evening and end by Thursday morning.

The warning is also issued for Fairview, Manning and High Prairie, going east to Wabasca.

“Total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 cm are expected in some areas.,” says Environment Canada. “The freezing rain is expected to affect areas south of a line from Peace River to Wabasca.”

The weather office says to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating driving conditions in the area.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

A snowfall warning has also been issued for the B.C. Peace, where 10 centimetres of snow expected to fall, beginning in the evening.

“The snow will taper off near midnight over the BC Peace and be followed by a risk of freezing drizzle through the overnight hours.”
