Alberta removing licence plate sticker requirement as transition to reflective plates begins
Starting in 2021, Albertans will no longer be required to have expiry stickers on their licence plates, as the province begins moving toward adopting reflective plates.
The province first required registration expiry dates to be visible on Alberta licence plates in 1974. Now with advances in technology, the province says stickers marking the month and year of registration, as well as stickers for fleet vehicles and permanent trailers, will no longer be issued starting January 1.
This move comes as the government plans to transition to high-definition reflective licence plates in the fall of 2021.
“Alberta’s government has been looking for ways to improve and modernize the delivery of registry services for Albertans,” said Minister of Service Alberta Nate Glubish.
“By moving to reflective licence plates, expiry stickers become redundant and outdated.”
