City of Grande Prairie adds 12 new COVID-19 cases, 20 recoveries

Active COVID-19 cases continued to decline in Grande Prairie on Thursday, as there were 12 new cases and 20 more recoveries recorded for Wednesday, January 27. The net decrease of eight active cases brings the number of active cases in the city to 152.

Three new cases were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie and one more recovery, bringing the active case total there to 45.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day January 27 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,143 cases (152 active, 972 recovered, 19 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 341 cases (45 active, 292 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 284 cases (38 active, 245 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Nine cases (two active, seven recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 43 cases (one active, 42 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (one active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 109 cases (11 active, 88 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 441 cases (47 active, 385 recovered, nine deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 186 cases (27 active, 159 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 345 cases (31 active, 314 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 56 cases (55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (two active, 104 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 214 cases (12 active, 201 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 71 cases (two active, 69 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 546 cases (36 active, 495 recovered, 15 deaths)

Alberta saw an increase of 461 new cases for January 27, as there were 12,324 tests completed at the provincial lab. Chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, says the province’s positivity rate sits at about 3.9 per cent.

Seven more deaths linked to complications from COVID-19 were announced by Alberta Health on Thursday. That brings the death toll attributed to COVID-19 in the province to 1,606 as of Wednesday, including 108 that have been recorded in the North Zone.

Hospitalizations dropped to 591 as of Wednesday night in Alberta, with 112 of those individuals in an ICU. In the North Zone, hospitalizations dropped to 68, with eight of those people in an ICU.

Alberta Health says 102,524 doses of vaccine have been administered as of the end of day Wednesday, and that over 12,000 Albertans have received both doses.

This comes the same day Health Minister Tyler Shandro took aim at the federal government, as they learned Thursday morning of more delays in getting vaccine shipments to Alberta.
