New COVID-19 outbreaks reported in Grande Prairie area

An outbreak involving variants of concern has been reported by Alberta Health at a Grande Prairie business.

Alberta Health says an outbreak at Royal Camp Services in Grande Prairie has identified 12 cases of COVID-19 as of April 12, 11 of which involve variants of concern. AHS could not say which variant(s) is involved in the outbreak, but did say there are nine active cases currently linked to it, while three have recovered.

To date, 1,149 cases involving the B 1.1.7 variant, first identified in the United Kingdom, have been identified in the North Zone, while 10 involving the P.1 variant, first identified in Brazil, have been found in Northern Alberta as of April 12.

Other outbreaks involving variants of concern in the Grande Prairie area include the RCCC Simonette Lodge southwest of Valleyview. To date there have been 22 cases identified, three of which are variants. Of those cases, two are active while 20 have recovered.

Reed Energy Group in Grande Prairie also has a publicly reported outbreak. None have been identified as variant cases, but there are 10 active cases as of Monday.

A Grande Prairie restaurant is also reporting an outbreak, that being the Canadian Brewhouse. To date there have been 12 cases linked to the outbreak, 10 of which are active while two have recovered.

Three active cases are linked to the outbreak at Rotary House, while two active cases are linked to the outbreak at Walmart.

The outbreak at the Gardens at Emerald Park in Grande Prairie has two cases linked to it, one of which is active while the other has recovered.

Outbreaks at Michels Canada in Valleyview (17 cases), Peace River Bible Institute in Sexsmith (12 cases), Tourmaline Oil Nabors in Grande Prairie (17 cases) and Stepping Stones South Daycare in Grande Prairie (five cases, one variant) have no active cases, with all other individuals involved having recovered.
