Rio Grande bridge replacement back on track with new contractor secured

Aug 9, 2021 | 12:57 PM

The County of Grande Prairie has secured a new contractor for the replacement of the Rio Grande bridge, just over month after the original contractor had to back out of the project.

Back in June the original bidder, DCL Construction Services Ltd., indicated to the County that it was defaulting and could no longer complete the project. That led County administration to believe that the project could be pushed back by as much as a full year.

However, with a new contractor secured, that being Formula Contractors Ltd., the bridge is expected to be complete in October of 2022, just two months later than originally anticipated.

The County says the contractor has already begun work on the project, and is expected to be working on site later this construction season.

County Council approved nearly $7 million in funding for the bridge replacement last year.

The bridge is located on Range Road 121, south of Township Road 704.
