GPPL launching new pick up location for County residents

Residents in the County of Grande Prairie wanting to borrow materials from the Grande Prairie Public Library will soon be able to do it in a whole new way.

Grande Prairie Public Library (GPPL) Head of Adult Services Hailey McCullough says the Lendery will be playing host to 38 smart lockers at the Wellington Resource Centre in Clairmont.

She says the smart lockers offer a secure and alternative location for library users to pick up their items.

“Anyone who wishes to pick up their items at the Lendery they just place their hold and select Lendery as the pickup location, and once they’re there, they scan their card, put in their pin, and their locker will open with their item,” McCullough explained.

“We’re really looking forward to extending our reach beyond our location here in downtown.”

“We were just looking to offer an additional access point for library users to pick up their materials so, we thought, the Wellington Resource Centre in Clairmont would be the perfect location for people to do that,” she said.

McCullough says starting August 30, residents can place requests for materials on hold, online, with pick up from the Lendery for September 7.

The Lendery, which is a partnership between GPPL, County of Grande Prairie community libraries, and Peace Library System, is funded by a provincial grant, along with the Willie Janssen Legacy Fund and the County of Grande Prairie.

McCullough added the idea for the Lendery started a couple of years ago after receiving 50 percent of funding for the project from the Government of Alberta.

“A number of different libraries in the province have begun offering this and we really wanted to emulate this and offer something similar in Grande Prairie.”

As of September 7, the Lendery will be accessible at the Wellington Resource Centre from Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
