County of Grande Prairie records COVID-19 death, Grande Prairie adds two new cases

The County of Grande Prairie recorded its 12th death as a result of COVID-19 on December 13. The death was one of eight reported in Alberta over the last 24 hours and one of two in the North Zone.

The deaths in the North Zone include a male in his 60s who had pre-existing conditions and a male in their 70s who had no known pre-existing conditions. There have been 3,283 deaths as a result of COVID-19 in Alberta.

Meantime, the County of Grande Prairie recorded three recoveries and one new case for Monday. There are 31 active cases in that region.

The City of Grande Prairie recorded two new cases and recoveries of COVID-19, leaving the active case count at 48.

Alberta added 250 new cases on the completion of 6,419 tests, resulting in a 3.8 per cent test positivity rate. There are 4,016 active cases in the province.

Active case totals, as of December 13 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

Across the province, hospitalizations grew to 366 (up nine), with 70 of those patients in the ICU (down three). Of those in the hospital, 170 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 51 of the 70 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 45 people are in hospital (up two), four of whom are in the ICU (same).

In Grande Prairie, 68.3 per cent of those eligible (ages five and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 62.7 per cent of those residents have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 89.3 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 84.9 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
