Grande Prairie adds 30 COVID-19 recoveries over two day period

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 30 COVID-19 recoveries and 17 new cases for February 28 and March 1. There are 114 active cases in the city.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 18 recoveries and just one new cases identified over the last two days, there are 156 active cases in the county.

Both the city and county recorded a COVID-19 related death. In Grande Prairie, 61 people have died as a result of COVID-19, while in the county 18 have now died.

The two deaths were out of a total of 27 over the last 48 hours. To date, 3,939 Albertans have died from COVID-19.

The two-day period saw Alberta add 747 new cases from 4,981 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 14.9 per cent. There are currently 8,164 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of March 1 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 114 active (-22)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 156 active (-)
  • MD of Greenview: 51 active (-10)
  • Birch Hills County: zero active (-1)
  • MD of Spirit River: seven active (-7)
  • Saddle Hills County: five active (+1)
  • MD of Peace: 126 active (-9)
  • MD of Fairview: 49 active (-22)
  • MD of Smoky River: seven active (-2)
  • Big Lakes County: 69 active (+9)
  • Clear Hills County: six active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: 15 active (-1)
  • Northern Sunrise County: nine active (+2)
  • Mackenzie County: 71 active (-6)

The province saw hospitalizations decrease to 1,224 (up seven), while 84 of those patients are in the ICU (down five).

In the North Zone, 144 people are in hospital (stable), five of whom are in the ICU (up one).

So far, 90.1 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.5 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
