RCMP reminding motorists to avoid road rage situations

Apr 7, 2022 | 12:19 PM

With the weather warming up the Grande Prairie RCMP is asking motorists to remain calm on the road if they run into someone experiencing road rage.

Sgt. Shawn Graham says incidents like road rage can lead to unsafe driving conditions for everyone on the road.

He adds if you encounter someone experiencing road rage, you should call 911 and remain calm and focused on the road.

“Don’t make any rude comments, gestures, or honk your horn aggressively,” he urged. “Don’t follow an aggressive driver, don’t try and confront them. If an aggressive driver confronts you, remain calm and when it’s safe to do so, contact the police.”

Graham adds while that driver who has road rage might anger others, it’s important for you to stay calm and not try and go toe to toe with the driver.

“We don’t want people replicating the aggressive drivers or driving behaviors of other people. If you see something happening, it’s best for you to call the police.

When reporting someone for dangerous driving, Graham tells EverythingGP it’s important for you to let the 911 dispatcher know what vehicle they’re the person is driving and what their license plate number is.

At the end of the day, Graham says their goal is to keep everyone safe on the roads, and drivers notifying them of these situations can help them accomplish that.

“We want people to be safe and we want everyone to get to their destination safely.”
