RCMP offering advice on preventing B&E’s

RCMP are offering tips this spring to lower the number of break and enters in Alberta.

Jennifer Kee from Alberta R-C-M-P Community Policing discussed simple ways to protect your property.

“Motion sensor lights aren’t there to alert you that someone is outside but alert the thief that the property is being monitored and this is a trigger for them that someone could come look out the window now because of the light.” Said Kee.

Kee also suggested not leaving expensive tools and equipment laying around your property. “as well stressing, do not leave anything out in your yard that can be put away, such as garden tools, bicycles, anything you may leave out on the property that somebody could come by and scope out the neighborhood.”

Kee says removing these high-value things from thieves’ sight eliminates the threat of opportunity crime which is irritable for thieves.
