Miss Rodeo Canada says competitors are excited to be back in Grande Prairie for Stompede

May 27, 2022 | 6:31 PM

Grande Prairie and the surrounding area have been making their way down to Evergreen Park for the first Grande Prairie Stompede since 2019.

Miss Rodeo Canada 2022, Jayden Calvert from Drayton Valley is at the events all weekend long and says the city seems to be very excited to have Stompede back.

“So far, so good it’s great! Those stands are getting fuller every time I look into them and I can’t wait to see what our Friday, Saturday and Sunday night crowds are going to look like.”

After a year hiatus for the rodeo community, Calvert says: “we took the year off so I think contestants found themselves having to spend a little bit more time around home which had some positive outcomes I think. They spent some time with their families and friends… took a break from rodeo but they are super excited to be back at it again.”

“We had half a season in 2021 and we were still able to have a Canadian Finals Rodeo in the fall, but we are so excited that 2022 has a full schedule!”

Miss Rodeo Canada will be a rodeo every single weekend until September.

The Grande Prairie Stompede goes until Sunday, ending with the World Professional Chuckwagons at 7:45 p.m.
