At the County of Grande Prairie’s most recent meeting on September 12, a third reading was given to the Borrowing Bylaw 3194 for Resources Road Improvements.

Widening of the road and intersection improvements will be for the section from the Dunes access to the old gravel pit where Nauticol is looking to build a methanol plant

The total cost of the project is estimated at nearly $8.27 million; with $4.8 million paid by the County, $1.7 million through the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program grant, and $1.7 million through the reserve.

Reeve Leanne Beaupre says after the first reading in July of the bylaw, it was sent out for circulation to see if the was any opposition to borrowing money for the improvements.

“We received no complaints, so we moved forward with second and third reading to approve the borrowing for improvement and investment in that project.”

“Most likely the tender will be going out this fall for next year to begin construction.”

She adds improvements will likely start to start next construction season on the stretch of Resources Road.

The County believes the project supports its values of “Encouraging Community Development Across the Region” and “Thinking Regionally” as per their Strategic Plan.
