Alberta Lung launches Room 2 Breathe Fundraising Campaign

This Christmas, Alberta Lung is asking Albertans to raise $50,000 for their Room 2 Breathe Campaign to help Albertans breathe easier.

Officials with the organization say the pandemic has tripled the demand for gap support, yet donations lag far behind previous years. They further say that post-pandemic life has changed significantly for many people, particularly those without health benefits or paid sick leave.

Alberta Lung says this primarily affects those with chronic illness, including the 1 in 5 Albertans said to be with lung disease who struggle to breathe daily.

Since the onset of COVID-19, Alberta Lung says it has provided medication and grocery support for those with lung disease. The organization says it also helps those who need temporary assistance while they wait for support programs, health benefits or resume jobs.

The needs of folks are said to be numerous, says AlbertaLung with some people needing groceries, medications, and masks, some needing their walk shoveled, and some requiring a turkey meal.

Alberta Lung says nowhere does this matter more than at Christmas where families are already doing without and suffering even more.

The organization says any amount of support helps:

• $25.00 can pay for a walk to be shoveled or transportation to work or medical appointments
• $50.00 will get a turkey or other items not available at the food bank
• $75.00 will pay for asthma medication or hospital parking
• $100 will pay to an area of greatest need
• Custom donation amount

Since 1939, Alberta Lung has been funding supports and services in Alberta, and all funds raised in Alberta; stay in Alberta, says the organization.
