Firefighters across Alberta warning the public about space heaters

Nov 23, 2022 | 6:00 AM

County of Grande Prairie firefighters are joining others across the province in reminding Albertans to not use power bars, strips, or extension cords to power space heaters.

Space heaters require a high current flow, which can cause the cords to overheat, leading to a fire.

Experts say residents should always plug their space heaters into wall plugs directly.

However, if absolutely necessary, people can use surge protector or heavy-duty cords to power space heaters. This is not recommended by the County firefighters.
