RCMP say one man died in a three-vehicle collision at Gold Creek

UPDATE: Grande Prairie RCMP has reported a fatality at the scene.

According to Mounties at approximately 9:09 a.m. they responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 40 at Gold Creek.

Preliminary investigations have revealed a tanker truck traveling south on Highway 40 collided with a grater-truck, which was also traveling southbound.

A pick-up truck was subsequently traveling north when it collided with the tanker.

The driver of the tanker was transported by STARS to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, however, the driver of the pick-up was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the deceased will not be released.

No other injuries were reported and RCMP along with a collision analyst continue to investigate.

The highway is expected to re-open in a couple of hours.

According to 511 Alberta, Highway 40 is currently closed in both directions.

Mounties are currently on the scene of a collision along Highway 40 at Gold Creek.

The collision involved a pick-up, grater, and tanker truck, which is partially blocking the roadway.

RCMP are advising drivers to avoid the area if they can, if not, expect extended delays.

Mounties remain on the scene to investigate the incident, and no further details will be released at this time.
