Enrollment open for new NWP course to train rural healthcare providers to work with sexual assault victims

The provincial government says enrollment in a new course that will train rural healthcare providers on how to support sexual assault survivors is now open.

Some of the money from $1 million funding announcement from the province announced in October was used by NWP to develop an online course meant to give specialized training to rural healthcare professionals.

This training would include instruction on forensic evidence gathering.

That funding announcement will also cover the cost of the course for health professionals working in rural Alberta.

A release from the province says the course will be available April 3.

“Micro-credentials, like the Rural Sexual Assault Care – Expanded program, empower professionals to develop impactful skills, knowledge and competencies that strengthen healthcare in communities. Northwestern Polytechnic is grateful for the opportunity to lead this important training initiative and we look forward to supporting rural healthcare providers across Canada in the coming year,” says NWP provost and VP Academic Vanessa Sheane in that same release.
