An out of control forest fire started Sunday night in the Grande Prairie Forest Area, south west of Spirit River and Rycroft.

Officials say the estimated size of the fire is 7.40 hectares and firefighting crews and three helicopters have maintained the blaze and is now classified as being held.

It is unknown what caused the wildfire and it is under investigation.

As of Monday morning, there are four other wildfires burning in the GPFA that are under control.

Since the beginning of the year, there’s been 15 wildfires in the GPFA burning nearly 65 hectares.
