Four houses damaged by Muskoseepi Park brush fires

May 15, 2023 | 6:11 AM

On Sunday afternoon, the Grande Prairie Fire Department responded to multiple reports of brush fires near structures within Muskoseepi Park.

The two brush fires were happening at the same time and three fire engines and one command unit responded to the scene initially, but was quickly upgraded to bring in the entire city fire department.

With extreme fire conditions, the fast-moving fire caused damage to four homes in the Mission area.

Fire crews protected the properties quickly to suppress the fire and prevented it from spreading to neighbouring homes and residences.

Two helicopters that were on standby at the Dunes Fire Station were dispatched to assist with fire protection efforts.

There were no injuries during the fire, but multiple occupants were displaced during the event.

The fire department is pleading the public to follow fire regulations and be fire smart with all their activities during this time.

As of Sunday, the fire was being investigated by the Grande Prairie Fire Department Investigator and no known cause of the fires have been released.
