Chanse Vigen wins Grande Prairie Championship and Ralph Vigen Memorial Award
It was a fulfilling first weekend of racing in the World Professional Chuckwagon Association’s 2023 season for former Peace region driver Chanse Vigen who swept the competition.
On Saturday, Vigen was awarded his grandfather’s memorial award (Ralph Vigen Memorial Award) and the use of a brand new GMC pickup truck for a year compliments of Summit Fleet and the Grande Prairie Stompede for the best four day combined time of 5:11.72.
Vigen, driving the Sundown Oilfield Services wagon, also won the Grande Prairie Championship despite a two second penalty for creating a false start in the final heat. He captured the win with a time of 1:16.27 alongside outriders Rory Armstrong, Ryan MacNeill and Ethan Motowylo. It was also the first time Vigen has won the Grande Prairie Championship title.
His run in Sunday’s final was more than two full seconds faster than his nearest competitor’s running time, making it one of the most dominating single runs for a championship final in chuckwagon racing history.
