Peavine Creek wildfire expected to cross into Alberta and County of Grande Prairie

Jun 7, 2023 | 3:16 PM

The Peavine Creek Wildfire is expected to cross the B.C.-Alberta border sometime soon.

The blaze currently sits only one km away from the County of Grande Prairie border and north of the larger Bearhole Lake Wildfire.

County Regional Fire Services received an update from the BC Forest Service, in which they estimate the wildfire will cross the border west of Preston Lake, between Township Road 740 and Township Road 744.

No private structures are located in the immediate region, however, some oil and gas facilities are, and may be affected by the wildfire.

County Regional Fire Chief, Trevor Grant said in a release, ” We advise residents to not participate in recreational activities in the area, do not visit the area out of curiosity as any unnecessary traffic could affect first responders’ ability to conduct their work.”

County residents should stay tuned to Alberta Emergency Alerts in case of an evacuation, and anyone looking for updates, live maps, or more information, can click here.
