Wildfire hazard still low in GPFA

The wildfire hazard is still rated low in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

One of the nine active fires, one is listed as being held. The rest are under control.

Environment Canada says Grande Prairie received 51.7 millimeters of rain in July. There were 33.1 millimeters in July of last year and 29.4 in July of 2021.

The High Level Forest Area is down to one out-of-control wildfire.

It is located near where the Chinchaga and Haig Rivers meet, about 12 kilometres northwest of the Paddle Prairie Metis Settlement boundary.

This fire has burned over 39,000 hectares.

There are 17 other fires that are being held and 11 more that are under control.

A special air quality statement because of smoke remains in place for the High Level -Fort Vermilion area.
