Nov 1, 2023 | 12:00 PM

The County of Grande Prairie has a new contract with its firefighters.

The county and Local 5108 of the International Association of Fire Fighters have ratified a collective agreement that is retroactive to January 1, 2022 and runs until December 31, 2023.

It calls for a 3.9. per cent wage increase for 2022 and another 3.6 per cent hike for this year.

The deal also includes moving to 24-hour shifts on a three-year trial basis starting in May 2024.

The county has also agreed to add a full-time firefighter at the Dunes and Clairmont stations, bringing the total number of new, full-time firefighters to eight.

“The county strives to offer fair pay and benefits that are competitive in our market while recognizing our obligation to taxpayers to manage costs in a prudent manner,” says Reeve Bob Marshall in a news release from the County of Grande Prairie.
