Five organizations in northwestern Alberta included in provincial affordable housing announcement

Nov 22, 2023 | 1:09 PM

The provincial government says it is putting $16 million into upgrading 400 affordable housing units across Alberta.

Of that, $6.5 million has been set aside for what the province refers to as “other communities” while the rest will go to Edmonton and Calgary.

Some organizations in northwestern Alberta will receive funding. That includes:

  • $250,000 for the Grande Spirit Foundation
  • $250,000 for the North Peace Housing Foundation in Peace River
  • $400,000 for Heart River Housing in High Prairie
  • $200,000 for the Lesser Slave Lake Regional Housing Authority
  • $150,00 for the Boreal Housing Foundation in High Level

The province says in a release it worked with housing groups to find units that need renovations and preventative maintenance.

The same release, it also noted out of the 400 units, 100 will re-open, while 300 will still be available while upgrades are being done.
