Long jail terms for two people after drug bust

Alberta Justice says two people from Grande Prairie have been handed lengthy jail sentences after a 2020 drug bust in the city.

Paul Unrau was given an 11-year sentence on December 8 in Court of Kings Bench in Edmonton.

He had been found guilty of four possession for the purpose of trafficking charges on October 11 in Grande Prairie Court of King’s Bench.

Co-accused Andrea Napesis was given a five-year sentence Monday, December 11 in Grande Prairie Court of King’s Bench on a single count of possession for the purpose of trafficking. Credit for time already spent in custody means she has 44 months left to serve.

Napesis was also given a one-year sentence on a possession of property obtained by crime charge but credit for time already spent in jail left one day to serve on that sentence.

Grande Prairie RCMP said at the time they were both charged after a search of a city home on February 7, 2020, turned up 1,075 grams of fentanyl, 407 grams of cocaine, 265 grams of methamphetamine plus cash.
