Jan 25, 2024 | 1:02 PM

The provincial government has released the list of non-profits that applied for Community Initiatives Program grants in the 2023-24 budget year.

$9.9 million dollars is going to 260 non-profits across the province; six in the Peace country will get $265,746 between the CIP project-based and operating-based grant streams.

The province says project-based funding through CIP can support new initiatives like programming and events, commercial vehicle purchases, website development, technology enhancements, and marketing. They make their decision on who gets grant money based on immediate community-identified needs as well as broad community impact and involvement.

The list of non-profits for CIP project-based grants are:

  • $75,000 to the Grande Prairie Alberta Winter Games Society – Alberta Winter Games 2024 for housing costs
  • $30,000 to the Grande Prairie Pride Society – Grande Prairie Pride 2023 for housing costs
  • $18,830 to the Peace River Art Club – Art Outreach Program for programming costs

Operating grants are given to non-profits that deliver services to Albertans who are vulnerable and/or disadvantaged.

2023-24 CIP operating-based grants are going to:

  • $52,171 to Grande Prairie’s Burden Bearers Counselling Society for advertising, marketing, communication expenses, office supplies, rent, staff wages and salaries.
  • $60,000 to the Metis Nation of Alberta Association Local Council #1990 of Grande Prairie for administrative costs, data collection, insurance, office supplies, reporting, rent, staff wages and salaries, and utilities.
  • $29,745 to Peace River’s Peace Association for Life Long Learning for administrative costs, minor equipment purchases, staff wages and salaries.
