Grande Prairie Police Service welcomes graduates for first Experienced Officer Class

The Grande Prairie Police Services is expanding its ranks with five new officers.

The officers graduated from the five-week Experienced Officer Class with a ceremony held at Teresa Sargent Hall Friday.

They have previous extensive experience as a police officer with the RCMP, Toronto Police Service, and other municipal Police services, as well as specialties like Forensic Identification, High-Risk Tactics, Community Engagement and Serious Crimes investigation.

The program was delivered locally with community partners to train the officers on the Police Act, trauma-informed care, Indigenous teachings, firearms, mental health and more.

Over the coming weeks, the sworn officer will fill a variety of positions with the Grande Prairie RCMP detachment and the regional ALERT office and will work with the GPPS Community Engagement Team and the Transition Team to develop a Forensic Identification Unit, and a SWAT/ Tactical Team.
