Grande Prairie receives federal funding for trail wayfinding signage

Jul 5, 2024 | 1:21 PM

The City of Grande Prairie will be installing new wayfinding signage in residential and commercial areas thanks to a federal grant.

The city has been given $60,000 through the Active Transportation Fund to make travel by active transportation like bikes, skateboards, and roller skates easier, safer and more convenient.

The city has earmarked $40,000 in the 2024 budget to go towards purchasing and installing the signs.

City Hall says the additional signage will encourage residents and visitors to explore the over 100 kilometres of asphalt, gravel and natural trail that Grande Prairie and area has to provide.

By making it easier to find community trails we believe we’ll see more residents and visitors using the trail system to enhance their lifestyles through recreational activities, a stronger sense of connection with nature and overall well-being. We’re grateful to the Government of Canada for supporting this project that will encourage everyone to walk or ride our trails.

– Jackie Clayton, Mayor of the City of Grande Prairie

The project is planned to begin this month.
