City and County of Grande Prairie downgrade Fire Ban to Fire Restriction
The City and County of Grande Prairie have downgraded their Fire Bans to Fire Restrictions.
Effective Monday, open burning fires not contained within a fire pit, burning barrels, and campfires on public land remain prohibited while small, supervised fires in fire pits with spark arrestors on private and residential land are permitted with caution.
BBQs and Smokers, propane, natural gas or electric cooking, heating and lighting appliances, and indoor wood fires are also permitted.
The downgrade is due to recent precipitation, but the City warns there is still a high community fire risk, and is advising residents to check the new Fire Hazard Index for reference on what is and is not permitted.
