Provincial government officials visit affordable Indigenous housing site
The Alberta Government celebrated construction progress at the Kikinow Elders Lodge in the MD of Greenview today. (Thursday, August 29)
Provincial government officials joined project partners; Victor Lake Co-operative and The Evergreen Foundation for a topping blessing ceremony by placing a teepee’s peak, which represents the highest point of the building.
Since this project started, the Alberta government has provided over $2 million in funds, through the Indigenous Housing Capital Program.
According to the province, “this one-of-a-kind twelve-unit lodge will provide aging Indigenous elders with affordable, supportive, culturally appropriate place to call home,” once it officially opens in early 2025.
