GPPS recruitment class goes “back to school”

Sep 9, 2024 | 11:05 AM

The first ever recruitment class for the new Grande Prairie Police Service begins their six-month training today. (Monday, September 9)

As previously reported, the program will run out of Northwestern Polytechnic and will be facilitated by a Police Cadet program director from Lethbridge Polytechnic.

GPPS received just under 200 recruit applicants and selected twelve officers from that to make up this recruitment class.

Of these twelve officers, eight are from the Peace region while two come from other regions of Alberta, and the other two hail from BC.

Now, these recruits will use amnesties from the Peace region to complete all their training; which includes the Eastlink Centre for fitness training, the Wapiti Shooters Club for firearm training, and the NAPA Auto Parts Raceway in Beaverlodge for emergency vehicle operations.

During training, recruits will receive a full wage.

In the release, GPPS Commission Chair Dan Wong said “This class represents the first locally trained recruits for GPPS and will serve the community well in the years to come.”

Recruitment for GPPS’s 2025 class is already underway, anyone interested can visit their website.
