County Council highlights

County of Grande Prairie Council took part in their regular council meeting yesterday. (Monday, October 7)

While in chambers Council approved a Municipal Police Service mutli-year financial plan for the Clairmont detachment’s four positions; Corporal and three Constables.

Council directed administration to enter into a five-year land lease agreement with the Peace Area Riding for Disabled Society, (PARDS) for the purpose of harvesting feed to sustain its operations.

Council told administration to continue the Grazing Lease program and set the rate at $3 per acre and $14 per acre for tame.

Administration was also directed, “following confirmation” that the subject property is within the Resources Road Upgrade Recovery area; to approve a development permit application for the Natural Resources Extraction Industry to develop a sand/gravel pit.

An update from administration on design, budget projections and cost estimates for the Design Development Phase of the Administrative Complex Redesign Project was provided to Council aswell.

Council also took part in multiple public hearings that saw Agricultural District land changed to Country Residential; those areas include 8.1 hectares four miles northeast of Sexsmith, and 7.32 hectares four miles north of Sexsmith, next to Township Road 744 and Range Road 54, and six hectares 3.8 miles northeast of Sexsmith, west of Range Road 54 and north of Highway 2.

Another 13.66 hectares and 9.04 hectares of land located 7.7 miles southwest of Wembley, west of Range Road 94, next to Township Road 710 was changed from Agricultural to Extractive Industrial.

Council then wrapped up their meeting by appointing a new development and subdivisions Officer, Taofeek Oladipo, and welcomed Corinne James to their staff as the new Community Safety Coordinator for Regional Enforcement Services.

The next regular County Council meeting is set to take place on October 30.
